COVID-19 update for offenders and their families: September 9, 2022

This content is a message to federal offenders and their families from Correctional Service Canada's (CSC's) Commissioner.

As we head into the fall season, there may be a rise in COVID-19 cases. I encourage you to continue:

Vaccines are still considered to be one of the best ways to protect yourself from getting seriously ill with COVID-19. Please speak to someone in Health Services if you are feeling unwell, and/or if you are interested in getting vaccinated.

We are shocked by tragic events that unfolded last weekend in the James Smith Cree Nation reserve and surrounding communities in Saskatchewan, which left communities in mourning. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims, and to those of you who have ties to these communities.

September is Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Month and September 9 is FASD Awareness Day. FASD is a condition that affects the brain and body of people who were exposed to alcohol in the womb. The day is intended to raise awareness of the disorder to improve:

World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10. This year’s theme is Creating Hope Through Action, which is a reminder that through our actions, no matter how big or small, there is hope. It is important to talk to someone when you are feeling:

We have resources that you can access for help. Sometimes just talking to someone is all you need. At any time, know that you can reach out to Health Services to set up an appointment with a health professional.

We were saddened to hear yesterday of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This year, Canadians celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, commemorating her 70-year reign. CSC is proud to:
