Death of an inmate from Springhill Institution

News release

July 15, 2024 – Springhill, Nova Scotia – Correctional Service Canada

On July 13, 2024, Charles Mangapi, an inmate from Springhill Institution, died while in our custody.

At the time of death, the inmate had been serving a sentence of 2 years, 7 months and 7 days for Motor Vehicle Theft (x2) and Sexual Interference of a Person Under 16 since June 7, 2024.

The inmate’s next of kin has been notified.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
