Death of an inmate from Port-Cartier Institution

November 12, 2025 – Port-Cartier, Quebec – Correctional Service Canada

On November 10, 2025, Ghyslain Malette, an inmate from Port-Cartier institution, died while in our custody.

At the time of death, the inmate was 33 years old and had been serving a sentence of 4 years, 6 months and 21 days since September 27, 2023.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
