Death of an inmate from Springhill Institution
News release
May 29, 2026– Springhill, Nova Scotia – Correctional Service Canada
On May 26, 2026, an inmate from Springhill Institution, died while in our custody.
At the time of death, the inmate was 78 and had been serving a life sentence, which commenced on March 26, 2003.
The inmate’s next of kin have been notified.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
