Orientation to Pathways Initiative

The NAAC members were provided with an overview of Pathways – they met with inmates who were participating in the Pathways initiative at the site, as well as Elders and staff to better understand the purpose and goals of Pathways. The inmates interacted with the NAAC members, and gave insight into their positive experience with the Pathways initiative. The Elder working in Pathways explained to the NAAC members about the various ceremonies and work that is done with inmates involved with Pathways at William Head Institution. Additionally, the NAAC members were provided with an orientation to additional areas within the institution where offenders work on their healing including:

Attendance at the 2017 James A. Murphy CAC Award of Excellence

The NAAC members attended the 2017 James A. Murphy Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) Award of Excellence ceremony. NAAC members were provided with an overview of the role of the CAC members and attended the presentation of the award to the 2017 recipient.

Honouring Ceremony for Commissioner Don Head

The NAAC members engaged in an honouring ceremony to recognize both the retirement of Commissioner Head, as well as the significant work the NAAC has done in addressing the needs of the Indigenous offender population during the time that the Commissioner has chaired the committee.
