Independent chairpersons appointments

The general mandate of Independent Chairpersons is to ensure fair and impartial adjudication proceedings for inmates charged with serious disciplinary offences through:

Independent Chairpersons are appointed by the Minister of Public Safety Canada under the authority of Section 24 of the Corrections and Conditional Release Regulations. Appointments are for a period of no more than five years, but may be renewed by the Minister.

Independent Chairpersons services are generally required once a week, depending on the institution. The Independent Chairpersons is paid on a per diem basis plus travelling expenses, as per Treasury Board Guidelines. Independent Chairpersons are normally assigned to a particular institution but may be required to attend other institutions, when necessary.

Criteria to apply

Please ensure that your curriculum vitae and your letter of application demonstrates how you meet the criteria below. It is not sufficient to only state that the qualifications are met or to provide a listing of current or past responsibilities. Rather, you must clearly demonstrate how, when, and where the qualification was met by using examples.

Information on your skills, experience, etc. provided in screening questions should be supported by your resume. Failure to provide the above information in the format required may result in your application being rejected from the process.

Applicants who reside in the region/area and are within approximately 100 km will be considered.
