Archived - Finance Ministers Meet to Ensure a Stronger Middle Class and Healthier Communities

December 18, 2016 – Ottawa, Ontario – Department of Finance Canada

Our country works best when its governments work together for the people they serve, and Canada's Finance Ministers have a proven track record of delivering results for families. This spirit of collaboration will continue as federal, provincial and territorial Finance Ministers meet in Ottawa to discuss their shared priorities, including health care, infrastructure and a strengthened Canada Pension Plan (CPP), to ensure a brighter future for the middle class, and those working to join it.

The annual December meeting's agenda will include discussions on:

The Government of Canada is committed to working with the provinces and territories to ensure Canadians get the services and quality of life they deserve. In his letters to Finance Ministers earlier this week, Finance Minister Bill Morneau confirmed record high major transfers to provinces and territories of $72.8 billion for 2017–18.

These transfers are part of the Government of Canada's commitment to working with the provinces and territories to provide services and programs that help Canadian families. It is in this same spirit that, over the course of the past year, Canada's Health and Finance Ministers have had a series of productive discussions on the major challenges facing the country's health care system, and our path forward. Canada's Health Ministers have been invited to take part in the agenda discussion on health care on December 19.
