July 8, 2022 - Ottawa, Ontario - Department of Finance Canada
The Government of Canada is committed to appointing highly qualified candidates able to best serve the interests of Canadians, through open, transparent and merit-based selection processes for all Governor-in-Council appointments.
In keeping with this commitment, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, today announced the appointment for Eric Wildhaber as a Temporary member of the Canada International Trade Tribunal (CITT) for a term of 3 years effective July 25, 2022.
Also announced today was the reappointment of Serge Fréchette as a temporary member of the CITT for an additional one-year term. Mr. Fréchette was first appointed in this capacity in September 2018.
"The Canadian International Trade Tribunal is recognized at home and around the world as a centre of excellence in the fair and timely adjudication of trade matters. I want to congratulate Mr. Fréchette for continuing his service for an additional term and Mr. Wildhaber for accepting a position as a Temporary Member.”
- The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance
The CITT is an independent quasi-judicial adjudicative body that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Finance.
The CITT supports the government’s objective of a fair and secure Canadian marketplace by providing Canadian and international businesses with access to fair, transparent and timely adjudication of trade and tariff matters.
The CITT conducts inquiries into dumping, subsidy, and procurement complaints; hears appeals of decisions of the Canada Border Services Agency and the Canada Revenue Agency; conducts safeguard inquiries; and provides advice to the government and/or to the Minister of Finance on economic, trade, and tariff issues.
