Approved Symbols

3.1 Symbols of military qualification authorized for awards to officers of the CAF are listed in Section 4.

Award of Symbols

3.2 Symbols (post nominals) are awarded to:

1. officers on completion of the courses listed in Section 4; and
2. officers of the directing staff, not already qualified, who complete one full course (listed in Section 4) as a member of the directing staff.

3.3 These symbols are for use by individuals who successfully complete the course.

3.4 HRMS will be updated by the parent unit using appropriate CAF course codes, not the symbol.

Former Service Command and Staff Symbols

3.5 An officer who has been awarded a command and staff or technical staff course symbol that is not listed at Section 4, but which is based on former military qualifications, will continue to hold the symbol.
