4.01 CADETS - MEMBERSHIP

(1) Membership in the Sea, Army or Air Cadets is voluntary.

(2) To be eligible for membership as a cadet, a person must:

(a) be a resident of Canada;

(b) not belong to another cadet organization;

(c) be of not less than 12 years of age upon enrolment and not have attained his or her 19th birthday;

(d) produce a statement of medical fitness in accordance with orders issued by the Chief of the Defence Staff;

(e) be of good character;

(f) provide the commanding officer of the appropriate cadet corps with

(i) written consent from one of his or her parents or guardians, and

(ii) proof of age; and

(g) be acceptable to the commanding officer of the cadet corps.

4.02 CADETS - PLEDGE ON ENROLMENT

When a person becomes a cadet, he or she shall take the following pledge:

"I ____(name in full)____, do solemnly promise on my honour to serve my corps loyally and to use every endeavour to become a good citizen, honouring my Queen, my country and my flag".

4.10 CADET RANKS

The ranks of cadets shall be:

(a) Sea Cadets

        Chief Petty Officer Cadet, 1st Class
        Chief Petty Officer Cadet, 2nd Class
        Petty Officer Cadet, 1st Class
        Petty Officer Cadet, 2nd Class
        Leading Cadet
        Able Cadet
        Ordinary Cadet

(b) Army Cadets

        Cadet Chief Warrant Officer
        Cadet Master Warrant Officer
        Cadet Warrant Officer
        Cadet Sergeant
        Cadet Master Corporal
        Cadet Corporal
        Cadet Private
        Cadet  

(c) Air Cadets

        Cadet Warrant Officer, Class 1
        Cadet Warrant Officer, Class 2
        Cadet Flight Sergeant
        Cadet Sergeant
        Cadet Corporal
        Leading Air Cadet
        Air Cadet.

4.11 CADETS - PROMOTION

(1) A cadet may be promoted to higher rank by the commanding officer of a cadet corps.

(2) No cadet shall be promoted to higher rank unless he or she meets the conditions established in orders and instructions issued by the Chief of the Defence Staff.

4.12 SENIORITY OF CADETS

Cadets take seniority among themselves within each cadet organization, in accordance with the order of ranks prescribed in article 4.10.

4.13 COMMAND BY CADETS

Cadets have no power of command over members of the Canadian Forces.

4.20 VOLUNTARY TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP

(1) A cadet who no longer wishes to be a cadet shall inform the commanding officer of his or her cadet corps in sufficient time to permit the recovery of his or her uniform.

(2) The commanding officer of a cadet corps shall, if appropriate, having regard to the cadet’s age, inform the parent or guardian of a cadet who no longer wishes to be a cadet of the cadet's wishes and of the requirement that the cadet return his or her uniform.

4.21 COMPULSORY TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP

(1) A cadet who has attained the age of 19 years must terminate his or her membership as a cadet in the cadet organization.

(2) The commanding officer of a cadet corps shall, after consultation with the local sponsor:

(a) compulsorily terminate the membership of a cadet for any good and sufficient reason, including a request to do so from the cadet's parent or guardian; and

(b) notify the cadet and his or her parent or guardian of the action taken and the reasons therefore.

4.22 RECOVERY OF UNIFORM

When a person ceases to be a cadet, the commanding officer of his or her cadet corps shall recover those items of uniform and kit that were issued to the cadet and that the cadet is not authorized to retain.
