Who is the Science Integrity Lead?
- The Science Integrity Lead (SIL) is appointed by the Deputy Minister and the Chief of the Defence Staff through the Assistant Deputy Minister (Defence Research and Development Canada)
- The Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces’ (CAF) Science Integrity Lead is the Chief of Staff (Defence Research and Development Canada).
What is the role of the Science Integrity Lead?
SIP education
- The SIL works with the Departmental Ethics Program (DEP) to provide education on the Science Integrity Policy (SIP) and to address allegations of breaches of SIP.
SIP breach process
- In cases of alleged breaches of scientific integrity, DND employees and CAF members can seek advice and support from the SIL.
- In the event of an allegation of breach of scientific integrity, directors, managers and supervisors are responsible for bringing allegations to the attention of the SIL.
- The SIL will ensure that alleged breaches of the SIP are promptly and thoroughly reviewed.
- The SIL will notify all parties involved of the allegation.
- The SIL will ensure an informal or formal investigation by appropriate independent and competent experts.
- The SIL will make a determination of the severity of a breach based on the SIP breach process evaluation criteria.
