About the Canadian Forces Housing Agency

The Canadian Forces Housing Agency (CFHA) is a Special Operating Agency (SOA) established in 1995 to deliver the Defence Residential Housing Program. The Agency operates entirely within the Department of National Defence (DND) with increased authorities and administrative flexibilities granted under its Treasury Board-approved SOA Charter in return for agreed upon levels of performance and results. Following the development of its Charter, CFHA became a full SOA in 2004.

The SOA status is especially valuable as it enables CFHA to operate with greater flexibility and efficiency, allowing for more responsive and tailored housing solutions to meet the unique needs of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members. The SOA status and provisions of the Charter provide an opportunity for CFHA to modernize and innovate.

CFHA serves as the steward of the Defence Residential Housing Program and portfolio, offering vital accommodation options to CAF members and their families across Canada who are required to relocate frequently as part of military life. By managing a housing portfolio of more than 11,740 residential housing units (RHU) spanning 27 locations nationwide, CFHA supports operational readiness by offering move-in ready, well-maintained housing that contributes to the resiliency of military members and their families.

CFHA embraces its corporate responsibilities beyond housing provision. The Agency invests in its workforce, prioritizing initiatives that enhance corporate culture with a focus on employees and customers through its continued journey towards excellence and its ongoing partnership with Excellence Canada. Receiving the Platinum Certification in Excellence, Innovation, and Wellness in 2019, CFHA continues to work towards the final step in this journey—the Order of Excellence.
