About the strategy

The Government of Canada is rebuilding, rearming and reinvesting in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Canadian industry will play a central role in this generational effort.

Security, Sovereignty and Prosperity: Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy is a long-term plan to support national prosperity and economic security by:

  • providing secure, reliable and timely capabilities to the CAF and our allies and partners
  • investing in Canada’s defence industry

Building a strong industrial base

The strategy aims to strengthen Canada’s defence industrial base, the network of businesses, supply chains, and innovation networks that design, build, maintain, and support military equipment and systems.

How the strategy strengthens it

Five key actions are outlined in the strategy. Each action will help Canada equip, sustain and modernize our military, while supporting a defence industry that is able to meet today’s security challenges:

  1. Renewing our relationship with industry
  2. Procuring strategically through the new Defence Investment Agency and a new Build-Partner-Buy framework
  3. Investing purposefully to strengthen an innovative Canadian defence sector
  4. Securing supply chains for key inputs and goods
  5. Working with domestic partners, including in Canada’s North and Arctic

The strategy will renew Canada’s partnership with industry and will help build a modern, innovative, and competitive defence ecosystem that will:

Through the Defence Industrial Strategy, Canada will position its defence industry for long-term success at home and leadership abroad. Because a secure and sovereign country requires a secure and sovereign economy.
