  1. General elections will be held in the province of Ontario with ordinary polling day taking place on 27 February 25
  2. Members of the Canadian armed forces (CAF) and their dependants vote pursuant to ordinary civilian voting rules as contained in the election act, revised statutes of Ontario, 1990 chapter E.6, as amended. Under this act every person is entitled to vote who on the general polling day:
    1. Is eighteen years of age or older,
    2. Is a Canadian citizen,
    3. Resides in the electoral district, and
    4. Is not disqualified under the Ontario election act or otherwise prohibited by law from voting.
  3. Time spent on active service outside of Ontario by any member of the CAF, or the spouse or child of such a member whose permanent residence is in Ontario, is to be considered as continued residency in Ontario.
  4. There are special rules respecting voting by mail. In summary, a member of the regular force or a member of the reserve force on active service or the spouse or child of such a member may vote by mail if the person is a qualified elector.
  5. Electors wanting to vote by mail can apply online or can visit the Elections Ontario website for a vote by mail application (f1000) form available after the writ of election has been issued on 29 January 25
  6. Electors can visit the Elections Ontario website or call toll-free in Canada and the United States 1-855-523-5932 or collect 1-416-649-1046 to find out what ID is needed. Please check the elections Ontario website for identification requirements and the deadline for the application and the return of the voting kit to the local returning officer.   7. Commanding officers shall not provide lists of members of the CAF or their dependants to revising agents.
  8. CAF members shall be given sufficient time to vote. Section 6 of the election act of Ontario provides that qualified voters are entitled to three consecutive hours for the purpose of voting.
  9. Provincial legislation now permits the sale of alcoholic beverages on polling day. Accordingly, the sale of alcoholic beverages in messes, canteens and other institutes is not prohibited on civilian polling day.
  10. Political activities on defence establishments and personal political activities of members of the CAF are governed by QR and O 19.44, and section 2 of reference A. Political advertising in unofficial service newspapers is prohibited in accordance with reference C.
  11. All unit commanding officers are to ensure the widest distribution of this message including its republication in routine orders.
  12. It is the personal responsibility of members of the CAF and their dependants to ensure that they are registered and that their names are included in the proper polling division list, if they qualify. Details respecting qualifications, revision period, advance polls, polling day, etc. should be obtained from the local civilian returning officer. Information not available from local returning officers may be sought from elections Ontario, toll-free in Canada and the United States 1-855-523-5932 or collect 1-416-649-1046 or by fax inside Canada and the United States 1-888-483-4448 and outside Canada and the United States 1-416-212-8723.
