The Employee Assistance Program is available to all Defence Team Members and their families.

The Department of National Defence (DND) values the mental health and well-being of employees and military members. It provides access to programs, such as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and the Canadian Forces Member Assistance Program (MAP), to provide support during difficult times.

The Employee Assistance program comprises many helpful tools that can be of benefit to any Defence Team employee and the employee’s family members who may be struggling with issues that are of significance to them.

Referral agents are front-line DND employees who provide caring and compassionate active-listening to employees in need. Referral agents can be contacted during regular working hours.

The EAP is a resource for civilian employees to obtain information on all kinds of issues related to their personal and professional lives, such as the following:

  • Addictions
  • Stress
  • Conflict
  • Work/life balance
  • Burn-out
  • Parenting
  • Suicide
  • Elderly care
  • Grief and loss
  • Work-related issues

The programs provide a confidential, voluntary and neutral service available to Defence Team members and their immediate family members who may be dealing with personal or professional issues affecting their well-being.

Defence Team members and their families have access to these resources:

  • Referral Agents (RAs) (link accessible only on the National Defence network): These are DND employees who provide confidential active-listening skills and resources to employees in need. Referral agents can be contacted during regular working hours.
  • Health Canada – Employee Assistance Services (EAS): EAS provides short-term professional counselling services. This service is available 24/7, 365 days a year, by calling 1-800-268-7708 or 1-800-567-5803 (hearing impaired).
  • LifeSpeak: This is a web-based service that offers free confidential access to hundreds of short videos by experts on everyday issues.
