Hello everyone. My name is Simon Page, and I’m proud to be your National Public Service Week Champion.

This week, we recognize and celebrate the success and accomplishments of hard-working public servants and the significant role that you all play as members of the Defence Team.

Public servants are instrumental to protecting Canada and Canadians, enabling our Canadian Armed Forces, including support to military members and their families, the development of next-generation technology, and the stewardship of financial and human resources.

In the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, public servants have been asked to continue to deliver programs and services to Canadians in this time of uncertainty, and to deliver some programs in higher volumes and faster than before.

Now more than ever, as we work through this unprecedented challenge, you have truly demonstrated the values of respect, integrity, stewardship, and excellence.

As members of the Defence Team, you can all take great pride in upholding Canada’s fundamental values and principles. You truly reflect the theme of National Public Service Week - “Proudly Serving Canadians.”

This week is a celebration of excellence and of pride in being part of the Public Service of Canada. In light of any physical distancing measures, I encourage you all to follow the DND and CAF social media accounts for opportunities to get engaged, and join the conversation with #NPSW2020.

If you are a supervisor or leader in the department, a special message to all of you: I encourage you to find a moment to acknowledge your staff and recognize the wonderful work that they are doing.

This could be as simple as an email of appreciation or a virtual Town Hall.

You can also send a virtual shout-out to recognize a colleague or team for their excellent work, or just to say thank you.

As the Defence Team Champion for NPSW, I would like to thank you for your continued diligence, hard work, and excellence in service of Canada and Canadians.

If I can leave you with one last thought, please remember that taking care of your mental and physical well-being is essential to being able to provide the level of support that the CAF and Canadians have come to expect.

So, stay active, take a break sometimes, connect with family and friends, and take care of yourself. Every little bit counts and will make a big difference at the end of the day.

And on that note, folks, have a wonderful week.
