Message to Students and Managers about the 2020 Student Exit Survey (SES)

The Student Exit Survey (SES) is led by the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer (OCHRO) at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS), and has been conducted annually since 2017. The SES’ goal is to take a snapshot of students’ work experiences in their current work term in participating departments and agencies. It will give students the opportunity to tell us about their recruitment, orientation, and workplace experiences over the 2020 summer student work term. The survey results will allow us to identify and address issues of concern in order to improve the student orientation process and ensure that all students are provided with meaningful learning opportunities.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the questionnaire has been modified from previous iterations to accommodate new questions in order to address the unique working environment of summer 2020.

The 2020 SES is an online survey and is launching on August 10th for a period of approximately four weeks. It contains 31 questions and takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Responses will be kept confidential in accordance with the Privacy Act and will not be linked to any personal information.

The email invitation to complete the SES will come from the National Civilian Welcome and Integration Team (NCWIT). All student employees are eligible to participate, whether their work term is ending, being extended, or they’re being rehired internally or in another organization. Managers are expected to allow time for students to complete the survey during the workday.
