October 16: Twitter Update from the Deputy Minister Jody Thomas
October 20, 2020 - Defence Stories
Friday Update: Public servants, don’t miss this important opportunity to participate in the #GoC virtual conference on Diversity and Inclusion (October 27-29). The program looks outstanding. Register here: https://www.statcan.gc.ca/eng/wtc/conferences/diversity-inclusion-2020
2nd #DefenceTeam survey on COVID is complete. Main takeaway: Folks want to better understand their managers’ decision-making processes around who works from home and who comes on-site. That’s a communication issue we’ll work to correct.
Managers are mindful of operational needs as well as team members’ health, safety and well-being needs. HR-CIV will work with managers so they can better explain to their staff how such decisions are made.
Members of teams who work remotely may feel particularly alone or disconnected right now. Managers must make time to connect regularly. No one is too busy to make sure their staff are ok. Reach out.
How are *you* holding up? Many of us are carrying around significant anxiety. Perhaps you’d like to talk to someone. As a Defence Team member, you have many confidential resources available to you: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/campaigns/covid-19/mental-health.html
You never truly know what someone else is going through and during these times, kindness and empathy—to ourselves and to others—is more important than ever. So be kind. Watch out for one another. And #washyourhands #wearamask
