I was in the land Reserve for 15 years, in the Air Reserve for 9 years and I have been a Class A Reservist in the Navy Reserve since September 2018. I saw an opportunity to apply to the Military Spouse Employment Initiative online. I created an account with GC Jobs, searched for the inventory and applied online by uploading my resume and filling out a short questionnaire and preferred work locations. The interview was over the phone, they verified my security clearance and I received the employment offer in the mail.

The employment I was offered provided me with an opportunity to work for the first time as a civilian in the Public Service at DND. I was able to work alongside both military members and civilians in the beautiful NCR area, in a bilingual environment. During the pandemic, I was working remotely and providing essential support to activities related to the Victoria in-Service Support Contract (VISSC) from February 12 to June 22, 2020.

I am very grateful to have worked for the VISSC project and for the possibilities offered to me through the Military Spouse Employment Initiative. This initiative helped me to acquire new professional experience within the Government of Canada that will certainly help me find additional job opportunities in the near future.

For more information on how to apply for a job or on how to access the inventory, visit the Military Spouse Employment Initiative website or contact the National Staffing Programs team.
