NEW: Employer’s Guide – Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations

June 8, 2021 - Defence Stories

Defence Team Supervisors/Managers: As you know, new Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations involving Defence Team public service employees came into effect on January 1, 2021. The new Regulations strengthen the policies that keep our employees safe and put in place one comprehensive approach that takes all forms of harassment and violence into consideration.

Managers have a critical role in supporting their employees and creating a safe and healthy work environment for all. A new Employer’s Guide was developed to help you understand your responsibilities, including a step-by-step explanation of the process if you receive a Notice of Occurrence. It also includes support and resources available to employees, template messages and an easy-to-follow, printable checklist. Please share this guide with your colleagues and ensure they are aware of these resources.

As well, please ensure both you and your employees have completed the new mandatory training on the prevention of harassment and violence in the workplace. The training will help employees, supervisors and managers better understand their rights and responsibilities, and how they can help prevent harassment and violence and create a safe and respectful work environment for everyone.
