Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Unit: We’re Here to Help

August 4, 2022 - Defence Stories

Ask yourself… Have I experienced, or am I experiencing harassment, violence and/or discrimination based on my race? My ethnicity? My gender? My sexual orientation? My (visible/invisible) disability? My religion? My age? Or any other identity factor including but not limited to education, income, rank, location, occupation, family status, etc?

Have I reported it to my CoC or manager and still felt unheard? Dismissed? Or made to feel like my lived experience is invalid or in my head?

If I have considered reporting it but haven’t yet, why? Am I afraid of reprisals? Afraid of losing out on career advancement opportunities? Afraid to be labeled as 'difficult’, ‘overly sensitive’, or the ‘can’t take a joke’ employee?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, then we at the Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention (WHVP) Unit are here to support you through the reporting and the resolution process.

On January 1st 2021, the new Workplace Place Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations came into effect. This regulation has redefined harassment and violence in the workplace.

The Designated Recipient Advisors’ (DR) Unit can provide you with advice on cases of harassment and violence, they can also accompany you through the reporting process, explain the steps involved, the resolution options and most importantly ensure that you feel safe, heard and involved in your own process.

The DRs are here to actively and empathetically listen to your lived experience without any judgments. The process is confidential and no decision will be made without your consent. You will be informed of every step in the process. You may also be accompanied by a family member, a friend, a trusted colleague or your union representative.

If you wish to have more information on the WHVP regulation or to report an incident please contact the Designated Recipient mailbox.
