More Community-based Support for Wider-Defence Community Members Affected by Sexual Misconduct

Following requests for access to a broader range of culturally competent, specialized care and support services, by those in the wider Defence community affected by sexual misconduct, the Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre (SMSRC) developed its Community Support for Sexual Misconduct Survivors Grant Program.
In 2023, the SMSRC Grant Program began funding community-based projects. Funding these projects broadens the range of support services available to those in the wider Defence community who have been affected by sexual misconduct. It also increases the collaboration between community based and Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces service providers. Since March 2024, the Program is funding an additional eleven new projects. Five of the new projects, three in Manitoba and two in Saskatchewan, are being developed where there had previously been no funding agreements. The other six new projects are in Ontario, British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia. These projects offer supports such as crisis management, counselling services, support groups, and help survivors access resources.
This funding increases the availability of support services across Canada through community-based service providers. This includes services for people 16 years and older affected by sexual misconduct who are Canadian Armed Forces members and Veterans, current and former Department of National Defence public service employees, Cadets, Junior Canadian Rangers and their families, caregivers, and supporters.
