This message deals with systemic racism, racial discrimination, and racial harassment, which can be a difficult subject matter, and some people may not want to read further. Support services are available to all Defence Team members.

On behalf of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), we will deliver a formal apology on October 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. EDT to current and former CAF members who experienced racial discrimination or harassment connected to their military service. This apology acknowledges not only the trauma caused by and within the CAF but also represents a necessary step towards lasting institutional change.

The apology will be delivered in person in Ottawa and live streamed nationally. Defence Team members will be provided with the link through internal channels and will be able to access the recording afterwards. More details will be posted on Canada.ca as we approach the event date. Managers will be directed to provide members with the support they need to participate in this important and solemn moment.

Emotional, mental health, and spiritual supports are available before, during, and after the apology event. Should you or someone you know require assistance, you can access a list of support services.

If you have personally experienced racism, discrimination, or harassment, please know that support is available through your local Conflict and Complaint Management Services (CCMS) office, which can assist with conflict resolution or the formal complaint process.

Systemic racism, including racial discrimination and harassment, have absolutely no place in the CAF. Addressing racism and discrimination is critical to our cohesion and effectiveness, and it’s the right thing to do.
