Repatriation of Gunner Sebastian Halmagean

February 02, 2026 – Trenton, Ontario – National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

A repatriation ceremony will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 8 Wing/Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton, for Gunner (Gnr) Sebastian Halmagean, a Canadian Armed Forces member deployed on Operation REASSURANCE, and who was employed by the Canadian-led NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia at Camp Labrie in Ceri, Latvia. The circumstances surrounding Gnr Halmagean’s death are currently under investigation by the Canadian Forces Military Police with support from Latvian State Police. Following the ceremony, the motorcade will proceed to Toronto, via the Highway of Heroes.

What: Media opportunity for repatriation of Gnr Sebastian Halmagean at 8 Wing/CFB Trenton.

When: Tuesday, February 03, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. (EST). Aircraft is expected to arrive at 2:30 P.M with the ceremony starting between 2:45-3:00 P.M. Media are asked to arrive no later than 2:15 p.m. (EST).

Where: 8 Wing, Trenton. Parking is at 2 Air Movements Squadron Passenger Terminal, 6 Northstar Dr. Access is off South Perimeter Road and Highway 2.

All media arriving at 8 Wing/CFB Trenton are to have credentials and photo identification and will be asked to present them to security personnel upon arrival at the South Perimeter road gatehouse.

In accordance with the wishes of Gunner Halmagean’s family, there will be no opportunity for interviews with family members. Questions or requests for information can be forwarded to the contact below.
