About the Conversations on Defence Ethics
The Conversations of Defence Ethics (CODE) training package was developed by the Defence Ethics Programme (DEP), with support from the Canadian Defence Academy (CDA) and the Directorate of Professional Military Conduct, after the need for a Defence Team wide professional development on ethics was identified by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) and the Deputy Minister (DM) in light of the DND and CAF Sexual Misconduct Class Action Lawsuit and Settlement.
The CODE contains ethical scenarios based on relevant and timely issues, including sexual misconduct, racism, hateful conduct and discrimination, among many others.
By March 31, 2022, all members of the Defence Team are required to have participated in the CODE, which will be organized and facilitated through their Level One (L1) organizations. A Letter of Intent and Facilitators Guide will be distributed accordingly to leaders, facilitators and/or ethics coordinators by their L1 Ethics Coordinator, which will help to ensure successful, impactful and meaningful discussions on ethics.
