CANCDTGEN 013/23 - FAQ

Q1. Why are current National Star of Excellence Program (NSE) candidates allowed to continue to progress through NSE levels while new registrations will not be allowed?

A1. As re-scope of the Corps and Squadron programs rolls out in September 2023, training opportunities for Gold Star cadets will no longer support the completion of NSE levels; hence why no new registrations will be allowed. Since the Master Cadet level will continue to be offered in training year 2023-24 for cadets already enrolled in NSE, then those cadets can continue working on their NSE levels.

Q2. How will cadets who display superior involvement in cadet activities be recognized?

A2. A new recognition program for all cadets is currently under development and will be announced in future policy publications.

Q3. If the NSE no longer exists, what alternate criteria will be used to select cadets for activities?

A3. The selection criteria for activities which currently include NSE are under review and re-development, and will be announced in future policy publications.

Q4. How will the pausing of the Cadet Fitness Assessment Incentive Program (CFAIP) affect cadets’ ability to complete the NSE?

A4. Unfortunately, pausing the CFAIP and the awarding of the Colonel Robert Perron Award means that there will be fewer opportunities for cadets to accumulate NSE points; making it more challenging for some cadets to complete remaining NSE levels.
