13-16 Annex B - ​Cadet Award for Bravery

Cadet Administrative and Training Orders (CATOs)


General

1. The Cadet Award of Bravery may be awarded to a cadet who performs an outstanding deed of valour involving risk of life in attempting to save the life or property of others.

Description

2. This decoration consists of a circular silver medallion with ribbon.  On the obverse, in relief, the heads and shoulders of three cadets, one from each of the three elements, and below the words: FOR BRAVERY – POUR BRAVOURE. The ribbon, 1.5 inches wide (3.8 cm), is light blue in the centre and is bordered on both sides by a vertical red stripe and then a vertical navy blue stripe.

3. A metal bar at the top of the ribbon reads CANADA and a second metal bar at the bottom of the ribbon, to which the medallion is joined, reads CADET.

4. The navy blue represents the affiliation between the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets and the Royal Canadian Navy, the red is for the affiliation between the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and the Canadian Army and the light blue is for the affiliation between the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and the Royal Canadian Air Force.

5. The Cadet Award for Bravery is presented with an accompanying certificate.

6. For cadets who have received this medal and wish to have it court mounted, a request for extra ribbon free of charge can be sent to:

Terms of Reference

7. Awarding of the Cadet Award of Bravery is governed by the following terms:

  1. the Cadet Corps Commanding Officer (CO) is the nominating authority for awarding of the Cadet Award of Bravery and he/she shall obtain the concurrence of the local sponsoring committee and provincial League;
  2. the recommendation, together with the League and sponsoring committee concurrence, shall be forwarded through RCSUs for onward transmission to  D Cdts & JCR; and
  3. the approving authority is the National Cadet Honours and Awards Committee.

Notification of Award

8. Notification that a cadet has been awarded the Cadet Award of Bravery shall be sent to the applicable Regional Cadet Support Unit (RCSU) who shall notify the CO of the cadet corps.

9. The RCSU shall issue a press release explaining the circumstances surrounding the act for which the medal is awarded.
