Cadet Administrative and Training Orders (CATOs)

Powerboat Operator

Operation of a powerboat with an outboard engine in support roles, such as ferrying passengers from shore to moored or anchored vessels or providing other logistical support to small craft participating in exercises.

Note
ROC(M) is required when a power boat operates with a VHF radio.

Safety Boat Operator

Operation of a powerboat in a safety supervision role during dinghy sailing or canoeing activities.  Trained to manage on-water emergencies and perform basic in-water rescues.

ROC(M) is required when a safety boat operates with a VHF radio.

Sea Boat Coxswain

Operational charge of a sea boat, under power/sail, such as a whaler, cutter or motor workboat.  Sea Boat Coxswains operate in both training and support roles, providing leadership and training to the crew of their vessel/providing support to other vessels during training activities.

To operate a vessel other than whalers, individuals require a craft specific endorsement in addition to the Sea Boat Coxswain – Whaler Qualification.

Additional assessment on the vessel (i.e. Cutter, Motor Workboat, or other speciality craft introduced into the Cadet Program) is required by a vessel type qualified instructor.
