Appendix 3 – Other international commission medals
- International military honours awarded to individuals, both military and civilian, who have served with the international operation or mission in question.
- In 2008, the Government decided that, aside from UN and NATO medals only, no further international medals would be integrated in the Canadian order of precedence.

1 | MFO | Multinational Force and Observer’s Medal | 25 April 1982 | Ongoing | The force was to observe the 1979 Camp David accord between Israel and Egypt and was set up by the United States. | Awarded for six months (170 days) cumulative service with the Force. The medal, which is suspended from a bar, is round in form and of bronze alloy. It bears on the obverse, inside a circle, a stylized dove of peace with an olive branch. Around the edge the inscription “MULTINATIONAL FORCE AND OBSERVERS”. The words “AND OBSERVERS” are located at the bottom centre. On the reverse the inscription in five lines: “UNITED IN SERVICE FOR PEACE”. The ribbon consists of a white central stripe flanked on either side by narrow dark green ones with orange bands on the edges. There is no bar to this medal. A Bronze numeral is worn to denote the number of tours in this mission. The Force Commander’s Commendation device is a miniature MFO symbol, similar to the obverse of the medal, in gilt metal with the background of the centre enamelled in orange and the background of the circumscription enamelled in black. The award recognizes the outstanding contribution of any person who has facilitated and advanced, or reflects favorably on, the mission of the MFO. It is worn centered on the ribbon and undress ribbon of the medal. Where a tour numeral is worn, the device shall be worn above and evenly spaced with the numeral on the medal ribbon and to the left and evenly spaced with the numeral on the undress ribbon. |

2 | ECMMY | European Community Monitor Mission Medal | 8 September 1991 | 19 December 1995 | To monitor the cease-fire agreement in the former Yugoslavian countries and to report on violations of the cease-fire agreements. | Awarded for 90 days cumulative service with the mission. The medal is round in form and of silver alloy. It bears on the obverse twelve raised stars around the outer edge with a raised outline relief of the map of former Yugoslavia with the inscription “EC MONITOR MISSION” in the centre and on the reverse a raised dove of peace with an olive branch. The ribbon is dark blue with two narrow gold stripes in the middle representing the European Community flanked by three narrow red, white and blue stripes representing the former Yugoslavia. There is no bar to this medal. Note: A miniature of the medal is worn centred on the undress ribbon. |

4 | CSDP | Common Security and Defence Policy Medal *Formerly the European Security and Defence Policy Medal (ESDP) |
1 January 2003 | Ongoing | The European Union (EU) established this medal on 1 January 2003 to provide recognition to those who serve in EU-led crisis management operations. | Awarded to military and civilian personnel who have served 30 consecutive days either in the area of operations of a designated EU-led crisis management operations or in a EU HQ in designated positions in direct support of such operations. The medal is always awarded with a bar to denote the mission for which it has been awarded. Each bar added since the medal was established does not require further approval from the Government of Canada. The bars to the CSDP Medal include but are not limited to the following (see below) Silver numerals are worn on the CSDP ribbon to denote the number of tours with that mission. Where more than one CSDP medal has been issued, it is acceptable for the recipient to wear his CSDP medals with the bars denoting the specific mission he served on and worn in the sequence prescribed in the Canadian Order of Precedence (after the International Force East Timor Medal-INTERFET and before the Canadian Centennial Medal). When the undress ribbons are worn, a miniature version of the bar is centered on each of the respective ribbons and placed in the established order of precedence. |
