Detachment Nunavut and Detachment Yukon

Joint Task Force (North) has two detachments based in Nunavut and Yukon respectively. Detachment Nunavut is located in Iqaluit, and Detachment Yukon is located in Whitehorse.

440 Transport Squadron

440 Transport Squadron is a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) flying unit based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. 440 Squadron's tasks include airlift, utility and liaison flights in support of Canadian Armed Forces in the North, including support to the Canadian Rangers. They also conduct free fall live parachute operations, cargo delivery to troops in the field, and serve as a secondary Search and Rescue platform for the RCAF.

440 Squadron operates four of the famous Canadian-designed and produced CC-138 Twin Otters to carry out its wide range of tasks. The Squadron operates these rugged aircraft in some of the harshest weather conditions on the planet and is the only formed RCAF unit that is based full-time in the North.

The C Company (The Loyal Edmonton Regiment)

C Company Loyal Edmonton Regiment is a CAF Reserve Force unit. It was formed under the Loyal Edmonton Regiment of the Canadian Army (CA). The Regiment falls under the CA’s 3rd Canadian Division and 41 Canadian Brigade Group. The Company is based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, and is the first army reserve unit to be stationed north of 60. The company is trained to operate in the harsh Arctic environment of Canada’s North. They train with both their own integral activities and support training for Team North units including annual live fire ranges.

1st Canadian Ranger Patrol Group

The 1st Canadian Ranger Patrol Group (1 CRPG) encompasses:

The 1 CRPG headquarters is located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

Canadian Rangers are the eyes and ears of the CAF in the North. They play a vital role in providing support during domestic operations across the North, as well as local knowledge integral to the CAF’s continued ability to operate in austere and challenging conditions and terrain.
