Practicing UXO Safety in Churchill, Manitoba

From 1942 to 1977, Canada and the United States conducted training operations within the former Fort Churchill Training Area, located east of the Town of Churchill, Manitoba. These training exercises include surface to air missile training, field exercises, rocket testing, artillery and mortar live firing. The site is located near areas used for polar bear sightseeing along the shores of Hudson Bay, the Churchill Wildlife Management Area, and Wapusk National Park. Be advised that there is a chance of encountering unexploded explosive ordnance (UXO) while in the former Fort Churchill area. UXO is the term for military explosives that were used but failed to function properly.

If you see something that could be UXO, do not touch it! If UXO is disturbed, it could explode and cause serious injury or death. Leave the area and call 911.
