April 18, 2017 – Gracefield, Quebec – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)
Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. As part of the Canada 150 celebrations, the Government of Canada is proud to invest in projects such as those by the four community organizations, which contribute to the strength and vitality of all regions of the country.
Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED), William Amos, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, announced that the Camp des Bouleaux, the Comité des loisirs et de la culture de Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau, the Centre récréatif de Wakefield and the Coopérative de solidarité en loisirs de La Pêche have been granted a total of $128,706 in financial assistance, in the form of non-repayable contributions, to improve playground and sports facility equipment and a sports complex.
The funding awarded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) will enable key community stakeholders in Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau, La Pêche and Grand-Remous to install new playground modules, develop a sports field and upgrade a skating rink cooling system.
In addition, Mr. Amos, on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Canada, announced that the Club FADOQ in Sainte-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau is receiving $8,729 for their project Tisser et Coudre sa Vie au Fil du Temps.
The funds, obtained through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), will allow the organization to purchase sewing equipment, sewing machines, embroidery machine and related equipment to provide new training to seniors in the area. Since 2004, the NHSP has funded close to 19,700 projects in hundreds of communities across Canada, with a total Government of Canada investment of approximately $417 million.
