Well-appointed and more energy-efficient community centres and a new play structure in Outaouais

Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. As part of the Canada 150 celebrations, the Government of Canada is proud to invest in projects that contribute to the strength and vitality of all regions of the country.
Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, William Amos, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, announced that the Association récréative de Chapeau, the Municipality of Île-du-Grand-Calumet, the Centre des loisirs de Portage-du-Fort, the Bryson Recreation Association and the Shawville Lions Club have been granted a total of $63,495 in financial assistance, in the form of non‑repayable contributions, to improve community centres and playgrounds.
The funding awarded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150) will enable key community stakeholders in Isle-aux-Allumettes, Île-du-Grand-Calumet, Portage-du-Fort, Bryson and Shawville to offer their population modernized infrastructure and install new playground modules for children.
In addition, acting on behalf of the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Canada, Mr. Amos announced that the Golden Age Club of Otter Lake is receiving $9,480 for its renovation project. The funding, obtained through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), will allow the club to purchase tables, fix light fixtures and replace two exhaust fans in the kitchen in order to maintain activities for seniors. Since 2004, the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) has funded close to 19,700 projects in hundreds of communities across Canada, with a total Government of Canada investment of approximately $417 million.
