Logging in to the CED Client Space
Use one of the following browsers:
- Safari
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Microsoft Edge
Do not use Internet Explorer. In the event of a technical problem, we will not be able to provide assistance.
For secure access, use one of the login options below. Two-factor authentication will be required.
Two login options are available.
GCKey option
You can use an existing GCKey or create a new one.
To create a new GCKey, you will need to provide:
- A username
- A password
- Recovery questions and answers
- A recovery e-mail address. Please note that an e-mail address can be associated with only one GCKey.
Allow a few minutes for this step.
For further information:
Reminder: Your username and password protect your GCKey, and you must keep them confidential at all times. Do not share them with anyone, including representatives of the Government of Canada.
Sign-in partners option
If you already have an online bank account with one of our sign-in partners, you can use the same login information to access Government of Canada services.
When you use a sign-in partner, CED does not receive any information that could identify you, including the partner you have used. Similarly, the information you provide to CED is not shared with your sign-in partner.
If your financial institution is not on the list, you must use a GCKey.

Two-factor authentication
Two-factor authentication is a mandatory security measure integrated into the Client Space login process.
You will need to confirm your identity by entering a unique validation code each time you access the Client Space.
To do this, you will need to download an authentication application that generates a security code. There are several applications that provide this service, such as Google Authenticator and Microsoft Authenticator. Authentication applications are available from, among others, Google Play for Android devices and from the Apple Store for iOS devices. Whichever application you choose, make sure it comes from a reputable supplier. You do not have to pay to access a trusted authentication application.
Once your device has been configured, you will be given five recovery codes. You can use these codes if you lose or damage your device, or if you delete or reinstall your authentication application. Keep them in a safe, accessible place.
