Chart 3.1 - Maximum OAS/GIS Versus Average LICO and MBM Cut-off Among Senior Singles and Couples, 2007

Figure 3.1 charts 2007 maximum OAS-GIS benefits and average income amounts for three low income cut-off measures, on the x axis against a $0 to $25,000 income rage on the y axis. The three measures of low income cut-off and the maximum OAS-GIS benefits are presents in two groups according to those who live as a single or in a couple along the x axis. The three measures of low income cut-off amounts are compared against the maximum OAS-GIS benefit amount. Overall, the income distribution for singles versus couples indicate that couples OAS-GIS maximum benefits is higher than that of singles. Chart 3.1 also shows that in 2007, OAS/GIS payments for couples are higher relative to low income thresholds than they are for singles.
