News Release

Making it easier to find and access government information and services online

June 16, 2016          Gatineau, Quebec          Employment and Social Development Canada

The Government of Canada is modernizing its web presence by consolidating 1,500 existing websites into a single user-centric website—Canada.ca—and is making the online experience faster, seamless and as secure as possible.

Canada.ca makes it easier to find and access government information and services anywhere and anytime, using computers, tablets and smart phones, and puts the needs and interests of the public first. The website is organized by topics and tasks most requested by the public, and the improved search function allows users to quickly find what they are looking for.

As the Government moves forward in standardizing, consolidating and modernizing its web systems, the Public Service is hard at work sharing expertise, knowledge and information in order to best deliver the improved and integrated website. All existing web content will continue to be available to the public, and continues to be migrated in phases from approximately 90 government departments, agencies and institutions.

To deliver the enhanced online presence, the Government of Canada is working with private sector industry leaders and procured a best-in-class suite of cloud-based, enterprise solutions. People using the new Canada.ca will benefit from faster access to information, improved user experience and increased security.

The initiative is a leading example for government priorities related to openness, transparency and improved services. It provides the foundation for modern digital communication and improved digital-by-default service delivery by using leading tools to make it easier for the public to find the services they need. Additionally, it facilitates engagement in a way that the public expects, and will make it easier for them to find and participate in their government.
