Taking action against harassment and sexual violence in federal workplaces

The Government of Canada believes harassment and sexual violence are wrong - they have no place at work, or anywhere. All Canadians deserve to be treated fairly and protected from harm while at work.
To tackle these issues and help make federal workplaces free from harassment and sexual violence, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, is inviting Canadians to have their say on this very important matter by participating in public consultations.
Gathering the views of Canadians will help the Government understand the prevalence and types of behaviours linked to harassment and violence that Canadians experience in their workplaces. It will help highlight some of the risks that are contributing to workplace harassment and violence, and identify the types of resources that can be useful in eliminating these issues from federal workplaces.
All Canadians are encouraged to share their perspectives through an anonymous online consultation open now until March 3, 2017.

According to the 2015 Federal Jurisdiction Workplace Survey, there were:
295 formal complaints of sexual harassment brought to the attention of the employer in 2015, about 80 percent of which were from women; and
1,601 reported incidents of violence in 2015, with 60 percent of injured or targeted employees being men.
