Minister Hajdu concludes successful G7 Labour and Employment Ministers meeting

G7 ministers discuss future of work and approaches to building more inclusive workforces

Canada's greatest strength is its hard-working, highly skilled and diverse workforce. That is why the Government of Canada is working to ensure all Canadians continue to have the education, skills and opportunities they need to succeed in a changing economy.

Over the past two days, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, discussed these key Canadian priorities at the G7 Labour and Employment Ministerial Meeting in Turin, Italy.

Minister Hajdu highlighted Canada’s focus on helping workers get the skills and training they need to succeed, ensuring they can count on fair, safe, decent working conditions, and on building better labour market policies by collaborating with social partners like labour groups and employers. 

Minister Hajdu met with United States Labor Secretary Alex Acosta to discuss their shared commitment to ensuring people on both sides of the border have the skills and training they need to succeed in a changing economy. She also met with several Italian organizations that help get more women into leadership positions and that help vulnerable youth find and keep good jobs to learn how best to ensure everyone can take part in economic growth.

The Minister and the other G7 Ministers were hosted by Italian Minister of Labour and Social Policies Giuliano Poletti. She highlighted Canada’s upcoming G7 Presidency in 2018, when leaders will gather in Charlevoix, Quebec.
