Statement

October 22, 2018         Gatineau, Quebec       Employment and Social Development Canada

Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, issued the following statement regarding the collective bargaining negotiations between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers:

“Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have been unable to reach new collective agreements and the union has commenced legal strike actions.

Our government believes in a fair and balanced collective bargaining process. I encourage both parties to continue bargaining and remain hopeful they will reach an agreement. The mediators from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service have been working closely with the parties to help them reach agreements and will remain available to assist them.

I will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
