Backgrounder

The projects funded under Skills Link are:

  • VIP Compétences (two projects)
    The current VIP Compétences project will run until March 31, 2020, and involves 168 participants. Participants are youth who are visible or ethnic minorities who will learn employability skills and take part in 26-week paid work experiences. Funding for the project is $2.082 million. A similar project ended in April 2017, which helped 45 participants and received $548,746 in funding.
  • JPC 2 – Carrière-Avenir
    The JPC 2 – Carrière-Avenir project will run until March 27, 2020, and involves 100 participants. Participants are Francophone youth who are recent immigrants. They will learn employability skills and take part in paid work experiences. Funding for the project is $1.018 million.

The projects funded under Career Focus are:

  • Démarrer ma carrière
    The Démarrer ma carrière project will run until March 27, 2020, and involves 100 participants. Participants are youth who are Francophone immigrants and visible minorities who have completed post-secondary education but need to gain work experience and learn employability skills. Funding for the project is $1.51 million. This is the first Actions interculturelles project to take place in several regions of Ontario, particularly the Ottawa and greater Sudbury areas.
  • Pour démarrer une carrière d’excellence (two projects)
    The current Pour démarrer une carrière d’excellence project will run until March 31, 2019, and involves 35 participants. Participants are youth who are visible minorities who have completed post-secondary education, but need help finding good jobs in the areas around Sherbrooke. Funding for the project is almost $407,000. A similar project ended in April 2017, which helped 25 young people and received more than $330,000 in funding.
