Backgrounder – Canada announces New Horizons for Seniors Program funding for projects in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

Backgrounder

The New Horizons for Seniors Program is a federal grants and contributions program that funds projects that empower seniors in their communities and contributes to improving seniors’ health and well-being.

Canada has announced an investment of $93,031 to fund four community-based projects to support seniors in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. This funding was awarded through the 2022–23 New Horizons for Seniors Program call for proposals for community-based projects.

Intergenerational and Cross-Cultural Mentoring – $22,400 – Collège nordique francophone
Seniors involved with the organization will host cultural activities and enhance digital literacy via intergenerational and cross-cultural activities to promote social participation and mentorship.

Seniors Curling Inclusion Program – $20,631 – Yellowknife Curling Club
Seniors involved with the organization will participate in curling events to enable seniors to learn, play and watch curling for free.

Outdoor Oasis – Next Generation – $25,000 – AVENS - A Community for Seniors
Seniors involved with the organization will participate in gardening activities and workshops to promote social inclusion and sharing of intergenerational stories with seniors and youth.

Senior Self Help Group – $25,000 – Yellowknife Uplifts Society
Seniors involved with the organization will participate in a senior support group and activities to share experiences and provide support for elder abuse.
