Sectoral Workforce Innovation Fund
The Sectoral Workforce Innovation Fund (SWIF) is a contribution program that invests in projects that help growing industries get the talent they need to succeed.
The program will provide seed funding to support the development of skills needed by industry. It also aims to ensure that project outcomes are sustainable beyond project completion.
Applicants must show how their projects follow the Fund’s main principles and provide strategic value. To meet these principles, projects should be delivered through partnerships with post‑secondary schools, training providers, and employers. They must include private sector investment, be designed to start quickly, and have clear, measurable results.
Through the SWIF, projects are expected to help increase the number of skilled workers in important industries, reduce hiring delays, ensure training programs match employers needs, improve workers’ skills, employability, and retention, and help Canadians find meaningful jobs.
Our goal
- Grow proven workforce programs — expand or adopt successful training models in fast‑growing sectors
- Build talent pipelines — support federal priorities, industrial strategies, and major projects
- Mobilize industry partners — encourage employers to co‑invest in new training programs that meet their needs
SWIF will support:
- projects that align with federal industrial strategies
- strategies proposed by the new Workforce Alliances
- projects that cut across sectors, respond to regional needs, or help prepare workers for major projects
Additional details on the SWIF funding and application process will be announced at the end of June.
