Employer Panel for Caregivers Consultation

Mandated by the Minister of State (Seniors), the Employer Panel for Caregivers is consulting employers, in person and online, to identify promising and successful workplace practices that help support employees who provide ongoing care to a family member or friend. A public report will be available late 2014 or early 2015.The submissions or views provided as part of this consultation will be used to develop a report for the Minister of State (Seniors) based on the Panel's initial findings from their consultations with employers across Canada on promising and successful workplace practices that support employed caregivers.

Informal Caregiving

For the purposes of this consultation, informal caregiving refers those aged 15+ that provide unpaid care to a family member or friend with a long-term health condition, physical or mental disability or problems related to aging. It does not include child care, parenting or care for minor short-term illnesses such as colds or flus. For example, informal caregiving could include the caring for an aging parent who has Alzheimer's, a spouse with a chronic disease such as cancer, or a child with developmental delays.

In , nearly 6.1 million employed Canadians provided care to a family member or friend.

The report may include a list of participant companies and organizations, and/or may identify a promising or successful workplace practice by company size, industry, region and/or city.

All submissions will be collected by officials from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC).

Your submission cannot use content or language that is inappropriate (for example, vulgar, obscene or hateful), names or addresses of other individuals, copyrighted material owned by other individuals or material promoting a commercial product.

Privacy Notification Statement

The information you provide in this consultation is collected under the authority of the Department of Employment and Social Development Act for the purpose of gathering information on existing workplace practices to develop a report for the Minister of State (Senior) on best practices on the Canadian Employers for Caregivers Plan program.  Your participation is voluntary and your acceptance or refusal to participate will not affect your relationship with ESDC or Panel members.  The report will summarize consultation submissions without attribution and may include a list of participant company names and organizations.  The report will be shared with departmental officials at ESDC, the Minister of State (Seniors), Panel members and the public.
