Celebrating 50 years of environmental action in Canada
In 1971, what began as a department responsible for preserving the natural environment, providing meteorological services and coordinating environmental policies and programs has grown into Environment and Climate Change Canada.
In 2021, we are celebrating 50 years of environmental action in Canada and abroad, while the Meteorological Service of Canada marks 150 years of providing quality weather forecasting services and information to Canadians.
We are an organization with more than 7,300 dedicated employees—in offices and labs, on the road and in the field—in 61 cities and towns across Canada. Our passionate people have diverse backgrounds. From biology, hydrology and meteorology, to law enforcement, informatics and engineering, our employees bring their expertise to solve increasingly complex and ever-changing environmental issues.
Throughout the year, we will be launching new campaigns and page features to celebrate our history. We will also be highlighting our employees—past and present—who reflect the values that Canadians hold dear—a clean, safe and sustainable environment for Canadians for generations to come.
Join us this year as we celebrate these important milestones in our history.
