Devon Telford: Senior Research Meteorologist

Devon Telford has worked with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) for 14 years. As a Senior Research Meteorologist, Devon’s greatest source of motivation is knowing that the work he is doing has a positive impact on the safety of Canadians.

Devon enjoys collaborating with teams and individuals across Canada, and the world. Over the span of his career, Devon has observed advancements in telecommunications that have allowed him and his team to virtually connect with others across the globe.

Devon’s favourite part of working with ECCC is the many opportunities that have challenged him to step outside of his comfort zone and further his knowledge and expertise. He cites his time spent forecasting Hurricane Igor in 2010 as one of the most memorable experiences of his career to date. In his current role, Devon enjoys the task of developing new products and services to better serve all Canadians through close collaboration with other Government Departments.

• What was your first job? Working the night shift making lunches for the volunteers during the 1994 Common Wealth Games in Victoria, BC.
• If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? Indonesia.
• What is your favourite game or sport to watch and play? To play, Settlers of Catan. To watch, NFL.
• Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse, or drive a car? Ride a bike.
• If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Smoked ribs.
• What are your hobbies?  Surfing, skiing and snowboarding.
• What is your favourite flavour of ice cream? Cookies and cream.
• How many pairs of shoes do you own? Seven.
• If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? To fly.
• What's your favourite zoo animal? Penguins.
• Summer or winter? Fall.
• What's your favourite holiday? St. Patrick’s Day.
• Do you love or hate rollercoasters? Love.
• What's your favourite movie? Conan the Barbarian.
