“Throughout the many changes over the years, the Water Survey of Canada was like one big family, sharing our experiences and wisdom.”

Lynne Campo worked with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) for just under 50 years before retiring in 2019 as a Senior Hydrological and Environmental Data Technologist with the Water Survey of Canada (WSC). Starting her career at a pivotal time for the organization, Lynne’s work paved the way for the future of data management and application at ECCC.

Lynne joined the Water Survey of Canada in 1970 during the early stages of transitioning from manually computed to digitized hydrometric data. She quickly grew proficient in technologies like coding charts and digitization, going on to manage thousands of data requests across multiple departments. Lynne always took care to make the connection of how the data requested would be used to ensure an accurate and efficient response. Lynne is grateful to have had the opportunity to share her expert knowledge of these processes with her colleagues over the span of her career.

In 2006, Lynne accepted an award from the British Columbia branch of the Canadian Waters Association for her dedication to her role. On the 100th anniversary of the Water Survey of Canada in 2008, she was the recipient of the Canadian Water Resources Community award, nominated by her colleagues. The exceptional level of dedication that Lynne brought to her position at the Water Survey of Canada will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the management of hydrometric data, and on those who worked with her across her career.
