“What drives me is knowing my work helps keep Canadians safe.”

Sara Hoffman has worked with Environment and Climate Change Canada for almost eight years. Since beginning her current role as a Decision Support Meteorologist with the Meteorological Service of Canada, no two days have been the same! Always learning new things and collaborating with equally dedicated and passionate colleagues have been the highlights of Sara’s work.

Throughout her time with the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC), Sara has seen many exciting developments, including the upgrading of MSC’s weather radar network and the shift toward more impact-based forecasting, where meteorologists share information about the expected consequences of a weather event to help people better prepare. Sara works with traditional and social media, and collaborates with emergency management officials, to ensure Canadians have access to the most current and accurate information they need to stay safe.

One of Sara’s most rewarding experiences was advising those coordinating the emergency response to the Chuckegg Creek Fire in May 2019. Experiences such as this, which have helped to protect Canadians, motivate the work Sara does each day.
