“Being at the forefront of dynamic environmental advancement is a privilege. I look forward to all that we can achieve together, in Canada and globally.”

Erica Berg joined Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) 4 years ago as a Senior Policy Analyst. She recently joined the Economic Analysis Directorate as a manager to lead work on integrating climate considerations into government decision-making. This follows her role in managing the successful delivery of the World Circular Economy Forum 2021, which Canada proudly hosted in September.

Since joining the department, Erica has taken part in a number of exciting and noteworthy projects. Her most memorable role was in 2017, when she successfully organized a ministerial trade mission to China. The mission included showcasing 16 Canadian clean technology companies to over 400 buyers. The Canadian companies specialized in technologies designed to improve air, water, and soil quality.

Learning about all the great and diverse ways we protect the environment is one of Erica’s favourite aspects of working at ECCC. The circular economy for one, promotes the development of solutions to divert as much waste as possible from landfill and keep the value in the economy. Erica reflects, “by including the environmental impact into the full product cost cycle, from design through to end-of-life, we begin to see how making environmental choices are actually the more economical and sustainable options.”

What motivates Erica is making the world a better place by fighting climate change and protecting biodiversity through the promotion of innovative technologies and strong policy.
