Meet Maginda Magendrathajan!
Maginda joined the Canadian Centre for Climate Services at Environment and Climate Change Canada in May 2020. Since starting her position as an Analyst, Maginda has observed the prioritization of climate action within her organization and across the country. She cites that this gives her a strong sense of purpose and fulfillment in her work. Maginda is passionate about helping others and says that she can’t think of a better place to do so than through public service. During her time as a member of the National Youth Network’s Executive Committee, Maginda feels optimistic about Environment and Climate Change Canada’s commitment to addressing racial inequities.

Here are a few random facts about Maginda:
- What was your first job? My first job was washing dishes at a Greek restaurant when I was 14.
- If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? Sri Lanka with my parents. They fled during the civil war in the 80s and haven’t been back. I would love to travel there with them and see their childhood homes through their eyes.
- Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse, or drive a car? Ride a bike! I am a huge fan of active forms of transportation.
- If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Biryani (a South Asian rice dish).
- What are your hobbies? I love to be outside as much as I can. Hiking, biking, camping, gardening. I also love indoor rock climbing and am looking forward to trying it outside this summer!
- How many pairs of shoes do you own? Five - three of them are hiking boots.
- If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? Time travel.
- Summer or winter? Summer!
- What's your favorite holiday? Christmas; it’s when I get to see all of my cousins.
- Do you love or hate rollercoasters? I’m terrified of rollercoasters, but I love the sense of accomplishment I feel after I go on one!
