Great Lakes draft strategy: Perfluorooctane Sulfonate, Perfluorooctanoic Acid, and Long-Chain Perfluorocarboxylic Acids

The period for interested agencies, organizations, and individuals to provide comments on the Draft Strategy is from April 26, 2021 to May 26, 2021.
Under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement (GLWQA), Canada and the United States work together to reduce the anthropogenic release of harmful chemicals into the air, water, land, sediment, and biota that may impair the quality of the waters of the Great Lakes. This is done, in part, through preparing binational strategies for addressing Chemicals of Mutual Concern (CMCs) and implementing risk mitigation and management actions, which may include research, monitoring, surveillance, and pollution prevention and control provisions. Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS), Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA), and Long-Chain Perfluorocarboxylic Acids (LC-PFCAs) have been designated as CMCs.
A Draft of Canada’s Great Lakes Strategy for PFOS, PFOA, and LC-PFCAs Risk Management (the Strategy) is now available for public review. Through this consultation, Canada is seeking feedback on the draft Strategy, including its proposed actions for consideration by a variety of stakeholders, including industry, academia, and non-government organizations.
